Seashore Trolley Museum’s most critical needs are to recruit new volunteers from the community to learn how to conduct and operate the museum’s trolley fleet for the general public. Several opportunities are also available to support the Maine Central Model Railroad exhibit, from greeting guests and providing docent-guided tours, helping to build new sections of landscape and new buildings on the model railroad, maintaining model trains and existing track and structures, and more. The museum also has several upcoming special events, including Daniel Tiger Visits Seashore, Dino Trolley, Pumpkin Patch Trolley, and Christmas Prelude Trolley Rides. Volunteers are needed to help register guests, assist with the events’ fun activity stations, serve lunch, direct parking, and more.
The campus has other volunteer needs this summer and in 2025, including:
- Restoring and maintaining trolleys and other transit vehicles in the museum’s year-round Restoration Shop
- Maintaining and building track and overhead wire infrastructure on the museum’s railroad
- Taking care of the facilities, gardens, and grounds across campus
- Helping out in the library & archives
- Serving on planning committees
- Operating the museum’s pump car for guests to enjoy
- And more!
Those participating in the New Volunteer Open House are welcome to arrive earlier than the event’s 2PM start time to hop aboard our 12:45PM trolley ride and experience our heritage railway.
